Call for Papers

Al-Raida welcomes MEPI TL gender scholars from LAU, and students and faculty from other universities across Lebanon and the Arab region to submit their reflections on teaching and learning about feminist theory and gender in university settings across the Arab region. This issue asks about the realities of teaching and learning about sensitive topics related to gender equality—including sex and sexuality, religion and feminism, and inclusive human rights—amidst ongoing crises such as COVID-19, and what teaching and learning at this current conjuncture can tell us about pedagogical and epistemological frameworks in the region.
Key questions for consideration include, but are not limited to:
- What epistemological and pedagogical strategies exist for teaching gender in the Arab region? How have these changed and/or been adapted in the wake of COVID-19, regional uprisings, and economic precarity?
- Has engagement with issues of gender equality and social justice increased as a result of the current socioeconomic and political situation in the region?
- How have issues related to accessibility—for students, faculty, and staff—been addressed, or sidelined, as learning has moved online? Has online learning had an impact on teaching gender in the classroom?
- How has COVID-19, regional uprisings and unrest, and economic precarity in the region changed in-classroom dynamics and teaching materials?
Al-Raida also welcomes submissions from MEPI TL Gender Scholars for this issue, which can be submitted under any variety of topics. Upon submission, please indicate that you are a MEPI TL Gender Scholar. Al-Raida accepts both academic and non-academic submissions, and encourages interdisciplinary work with a focus on issues related to gender in the Arab region and the diaspora.
