Lebanese Women and Politics: A Comparison between Two Field Studies

Abstract


The first decade of the history of independent Lebanon witnessed the arbitrary exclusion of women from the definition of the "Lebanese" who were granted and guaranteed equal rights and duties in the Lebanese Constitution.' Women were denied their political rights either explicitly in electoral laws2 or implicity by holding elections on the basis of electoral lists that did not have female voters on them yet.
